In his new photo series, Chris Jordan documents baby albatross bodies fed plastic by their parents. His work is always so powerful, so mind-blowing. “The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young.” Poor babies!
please bask in the gloriousness of this lovely piece from marc by marc jacobs spring RTW 2010 line. i’m in love. (marc and i share a birthday 20 years apart, coincidence? i think not.) via wwd.com
Casey Marie’s other talents include drawing and painting animal, mostly chihuahua-themed art, among other things…
i’m a little embarassed to say it, but i have an internet crush on portugese doll and babysling maker, rosa pomar. i love her use of fabrics ranging from vintage florals to traditional african prints and how she uses her fairy daughters as models. she is awesome. well, she is getting ripped off by oilily, a company that is selling an almost exact copy of her work as a mass-produced doll in a sheet gift set.

she is seeking legal council, but i wish there was more we could do. this kind of soulless corporate bs infuriates me.
if you haven’t heard of fast boy cycles or its creator, ezra caldwell, please check him out. he hand-makes custom bicycles in nyc and is in the middle of a battle with “ass cancer.” Teaching Cancer to Cry is is blog. (be sure to look out for the assless bike he made for commuting to treatment.) i can’t imagine being in his shoes and having such a positive and productive attitude. he is an amazing craftsman and a stunning example of a human being. he also gets coolpoints for his dog putney and having made a custom bike for his friend, glen hansard, of the movie “once.” i’ve been meaning to post about ezra for a while now, i just could never pick a pic. so expect more fast boy cycles on this blog :)

my friend marianne started a little farm in her backyard that has evolved into a “kid camp.” her recent addition of goats has met some controversy among neighbors, so she’s started a petition to amend the the carrboro animal control ordinance to allow goats within city limits. she has turned her backyard into a teaching farm for children to learn to love gardening, farming and living sustainably. i think her work is so important for the future and the fact that it is within city limits makes it all the more accessible. please support marianne’s efforts by signing the petition on her blog.
